Ethical Sourcing and Principles

Our teas come from all around the World and all in all we’re proud to say that our teas are sourced from companies that adhere as far as possible to ethical sourcing and principles.

What are ethical principals and how do we adhere to them? We had a look at different sites and were amazed by the diversity when it comes to what people adhere to and what their perceptions of Ethical sourcing pertains.

The big boys in the food industry try and show how ethically “PC” they are, but, commitment to zero deforestation and no use of Palm Oil might appear to help toward their kudos but if they never used the products in the first place what are they proving.

The list everyone could adhere to is endless, water risk management, nutrition ratings, human rights benchmarks, WWF Soy Scorecard, plastic pollution, air miles, supply chain practises in China. Where do we stop, the list is endless. Google some of the aforementioned criteria and you’ll be amazed at what you find. Better still just type in ethical sourcing and principals.

Where does a small business start? We started this little enterprise by looking at the packaging, whilst not perfect we still comply when we attend ethically led fairs like Vegan Festivals. Feeling guilty about our Air Miles we import the largest amount of stock we can afford at any one time to cut down the number of journeys to our business. When it comes to our staff well I think I’m fairly principled, tongue in cheek.

Are you ethically minded are you doing your bit for the Planet? Lots of us like to use Chains to buy from, ” I must have my latte fix in the morning” but do you really? Think of the energy, marketing, packaging that goes into your cup of coffee. Of course we advocate the little man, but the little man listens to his/her customer, we care what you think otherwise we have no business. Pop into your local independent see how they operate talk to them, much easier to change their mind than some big chain.

We know, we’ve listened.
